Michie Tavern is a historic site near Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello that is open year round seven days a week. To prepare for the busy season we add to our existing staff.
At this time we are hiring for the following departments. Interested candidates should apply in person. There is a down loadable version of our two page application at the bottom of this page. Please print, complete questions on application and hand in when you apply in person for a particular job.
Dining Room Wait Staff
We serve a southern lunch buffet daily and offer great service to our worldwide guests. Applicants must possess a personable attitude and a willingness to work weekend day(s). We offer full training; food service experience is not required. This is a day time position that averages around seven hours each day and 3-5 days per week. Our waitstaff is uniformed in period attire and a smile. Compensation includes an hourly rate above the wait position minimum wage plus excellent tips which are pooled and split for the day. Our staff is very team oriented and hospitable; we always look forward to new additions.
Docent
We offer daily interactive tours of the oldest section of Michie Tavern. Many of our tour staff are retired teachers who enjoy interpreting history; we engage our guests throughout the tour. Applicants don period attire and must be willing to work weekend or holiday day(s). You can expect 3-5 hours per day and around 3 days per week.
Greeter and Gift Shop
At Michie Tavern we have a person stationed to greet and educate the guests as they approach the main building. The right person for this job must be personable and able to adapt to a busy environment. This position also assists in the Tavern Gift Shop and gives breaks in other departments except the dining room.
Sales People
There are four unique retail shops on site. We are looking for an outgoing and customer service oriented person to work part time.
Flexible scheduling, 2 to 3 days per week. Must be available to work at least one weekend day. Apply in Person at the General Store.
Shuttle Driver
Tour groups are a large part of our business and we employ drivers to shuttle bus drivers from and to our parking lot. This is a great opportunity for retired individuals to work part days.
Responsibilities will include greeting and transporting bus drivers to and from a remote bus parking area via a minivan.
Average 3-4 hours per day and 3-5 days per week during the busy season.
Candidates must be personable, dependable and have a good DMV record.
