Civil War Exhibit
“Inside a Field Officer’s Desk”
Historic Michie Tavern will commemorate the Civil War Sesquicentennial through a special exhibit “Inside a Field Officer’s Desk.”
An entire upstairs room within the oldest section of Michie Tavern will be dedicated to a display of desks, chairs and tables from Northern and Southern Field Officers. Visitors will view the contents of each desk and compare and contrast the differences. The “Field Officers Desks” will be the staple of the exhibit. However, throughout the 150th Anniversary Michie Tavern will be rotating displays that will include Civil War weaponry and original Lee, Grant and Lincoln signatures.
In addition, there will be on-going interpretations of the role of Michie men and women in the Civil War. The exhibit, which opened in June, is included in the admission charge to tour the oldest section of Michie Tavern.
Michie Tavern is located ½ mile next to Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello.
Tours are offered on the hour and half-hour 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The last tour begins 4:20 p.m. Information: 434-977-1234.
Tours of the oldest section of Michie Tavern are not wheelchair accessible.
