More than a century ago, the Michie family built a mill near the tavern. Unfortunately it fell into decay over the years and its timbers fell prey to dry rot. To recreate the original atmosphere of the Michie landholdings, a similar 18th century mill was located in nearby Laurel Hill, Virginia. Historic Michie Tavern dismantled it… numbered each piece and then transported it by truck more than 50 miles so that it could be reconstructed here. The painstaking restoration required two and a half years.
